Good evening, esteemed clients.
I have just returned home from the factory and thought it would be beneficial to document my experiences. Sometimes, discussions in the workshop can be noisy and I don't want to disturb my colleagues' work, so I refrain from recording videos there. To ensure I don’t forget anything important, I write down my thoughts upon returning home. It’s also an opportunity for reflection and review, allowing me to share some personal insights.
The situation is as follows: We recently acquired a new jewelry client who approached us at the end of last month to design a packaging box. They paid the full sampling fee upfront. It took me approximately 10 days to complete the sample and send it out for their approval. I try not to delay unnecessarily; normally, such a project might take 15 days, but I believe that if something can be done quickly, it should be expedited to avoid delays in production and personnel. Promptness is something we learn from Shenzhen’s efficiency.
Upon receiving the sample, the client was not entirely satisfied. While the packaging box was well-made, they wished to make adjustments to certain aspects of their design. They revised the construction drawings and sent them back to us.
Typically, a second sampling fee would be charged for these changes. However, considering this client has been very straightforward in their transactions, I decided to waive the additional fee and proceeded with the modifications based on the previous version. Our craftsmen were highly efficient, dedicating only three working days to the task—truly two days focused on making the changes. The modifications are now about 80% complete, with only the inner support left to finish.
For the leather material, I selected one type as required, but I actually sourced seven options. I compared materials from three different factories because it's not just about color and texture; we also need to evaluate durability and thickness. Not all ordinary leathers are suitable for packaging boxes; the quality must be considered, along with the final cost, ensuring it does not exceed our budget. Within the set budget, I aim to use the best possible materials.
Choosing materials is akin to selecting fabric for clothing; while the cut matters, the quality of the material is immediately apparent. Cheap market goods often suffer from poor quality due to substandard materials. Surface quality is crucial, including the fine lambskin velvet used externally. Although imported materials could be used, I respect the client's budget constraints and opt for the best materials available within those limits. Since we specialize in display items, cabinets, packaging, and props, the surface quality is paramount. We strive for excellence, not mediocrity, focusing on high-quality and luxurious products rather than low-cost alternatives. If you prefer lower-cost options, I’d rather not proceed.
Our master craftsman has completed around 80% of the revised box. I am quite pleased as it only took two days to finish the modifications, which I initially estimated would take a week. Normally, adjusting details like the gold stamping and logo would require a full week. The current progress looks promising, and I hope the client will be satisfied with this iteration.
